2012-2013 School Improvement Plan
Improve the rigor and academic offerings for the 2012-2013 school year by adding new courses to the schedule and reducing class sizes in the English, social studies and/or foreign language departments.
Add four courses to the 2012-2013 academic schedule to support Fine Arts, Language Arts and Social Studies. A highly qualified teacher will be assigned and responsible for marketing the course to students and parents. Equipment purchased and set up will be made prior to the beginning of the school year. New courses and teachers will be evaluated monthly to assure quality instruction, rigor and pacing with curriculum scope and sequence. CTE Skills and State CRT testing will be administered each semester/end of year for class and data will be evaluated.
Improve and support the implementation of the new literacy common core curriculum. North Sanpete High School will meet 65% of growth targets for the 2012-2013 school year.
Current research emphasizes the need for schools to use data to improve academic performance. Teachers need to establish student progress and individual student academic ceilings in order to create interventions appropriate for each student. Northwest reading adaptive test allows teachers to set indivdual academic goals, place students in needed interventions and assist teachers and departments in course placement. The Northwest adaptive reading test will be administered Fall, Winter and Spring of the 2012-2013 school year. Each testing session will be evaluated to determine the number of students that meet their growth targets. Growth charts for each student will be used during parent teacher conferences to engage parent understanding and support for student growth. Each student will receive a growth target to provide incentive for academic progress. Northwest evaluation also gives teachers concept information directly related to individual student academic levels through Des Carte. This information assists teachers with identifying support needed to improve student understanding.
Improve instructional support through improved technology in the classroom.
Teachers determined specific technology needs for classroom instruction. Teachers outline how the technology will improve student engagement. Administrators will determine effectiveness of technology advancements through teacher observations, progress monitoring data and follow-up discussions.
Increase graduation rate for North Sanpete High School by 25% over the next three years.
School reports will be analyzed at the end of semester to determine credits earned and the number of students that credit deficient. Students that are identifyed as being deficient will be placed in a credit recovery class. Students will be tracked for progress through the counseling office.
