Moroni Elementary was proudly showcased during the recent legislative committee meeting with a moving presentation celebrating the school’s 12-year Dual Language Immersion program. Four sixth-grade students shared heartfelt reflections on their experiences—two in English and two in Spanish—demonstrating both their academic growth and bilingual confidence. Their voices highlighted not only the program’s educational impact, but also its powerful role in bringing students, families, and cultures together. The presentation was a meaningful reminder of how Moroni Elementary’s commitment to language learning has strengthened community connections and created a welcoming, unified environment for all. Well done Moroni Elementary!

WHAT: The Utah State Board of Education (USBE) has released a new parent education video developed in response to S.B. 98 (2025): Parental Education on Student Use of Technology Amendments . The video provides parents and guardians with clear, accessible information about technology-related risks and safety considerations for students.

WHO: For all Utah school districts, charter schools, parent organizations, and community partners who support family engagement and student safety.

ACTION: Please share this video widely with parents and guardians through your regular communication channels. Districts and schools are encouraged to incorporate the video into parent outreach, training, and engagement efforts.

INFORMATION: During the 2025 Legislative Session, the Utah State Legislature passed S.B. 98, aimed at increasing parental awareness about the safety and legal risks students may encounter when using technology.

In collaboration with Bonneville Communications, the Utah State Board of Education has created a brief, informative video to help families better understand issues such as:

Risks associated with sharing personal information online
Dangers tied to creating or sharing sexual or nude images, including artificially generated images
Practical ways families can support safe and responsible technology use

USBE has made this resource available statewide to ensure every parent has the opportunity to learn about these important topics.

Unified Basketball Tournament

Wednesday the 21st of January was such a great day for Unified Sports, Basketball. We had a tournament at NSHS, 5 schools participated and that ended up giving us 11 teams. Both NS Red and NS White took 2nd place. Both teams played well and had a great time. We appreciate both the basketball girls and boys that reffed the games and kept score, we couldn't have done it without them. We also want to thank our wonderful peer tutors that play and help out both Hawk teams. Thank you teachers and students that cheered at the tournament, you all made it such a great day!!

This is our 4th year playing basketball, 1st year playing soccer and 8th year doing track.

NSSD's New Business Administrator

We are thrilled to announce that Koby Willis has been selected as our next Business Administrator!

Koby will be joining us shortly after the Christmas Break. Many of you may remember him from his time teaching at North Sanpete High School earlier in his career. Since then, he has served as the Business Administrator and later as Superintendent of Piute School District, where he played a key role in advancing legislation that increased funding for rural schools across Utah.

Koby is a passionate advocate for rural education and is widely respected for his integrity, collaboration, and leadership. We are excited to welcome him—and his family—back to the North Sanpete community. His experience, enthusiasm, and commitment to students and staff will make an immediate and positive impact on our district.

APPRENTICE SIGNING DAY

Monday was a historic day for the North Sanpete School District, our university partners, and the U-RAPT program. At the beginning of the year, we hired 10 Apprentice Teachers who are currently enrolled in a University Education Program to become future teachers. They work alongside some of our best teachers until they finish their degree. According to our teachers, this is the best thing to happen to education preparation programs in a very long time. We thank our University Partners: UVU, USU, SUU, and WGU. It was wonderful to see FUTURE teachers having their own "Signing Day," like we see with future athletes. What a wonderful day for education. We appreciate the U-RAPT Program and the pathways it provides. We are lucky to be able to participate in this program.

Ben Cox was voted District Teacher of the year for the 2024-2025 school year.

Ben will go on and represent North Sanpete School District in the State-wide competition for Utah Teacher of the Year.

Ben Cox North Sanpete High School Ben Cox teaches English and journalism and serves as a counselor at North Sanpete High School. He has been an educator for 23 years and a counselor for 12. He earned an Associate of Arts from Snow College, a Bachelor of Arts in English Teaching from BYU, and a master's degree in psychology and school counseling from Utah State University.

Known for his creativity and compassion, Cox believes life's greatest joy is in serving others.

Summer Lunch program and Utah Sun buck

NORTH SANPETE SCHOOL DISTRIСТ SUMMER FOOD PROGRAM Free breakfast and lunch for children ages 0-18

Great News Parents, North Sanpete School District Child Nutrition Program will be running a "Grab and Go" meal service program this summer. We will be offering a breakfast and lunch Monday through Friday. The meals will be picked up at the same time. The meals can be taken home to be consumed. The breakfast can be saved for the children to eat the following morning. "Really Great News" Every Friday an extra breakfast and lunch will be distributed to help with Saturday feeding. The program will run from Tuesday June 2nd - Friday July 18th, We will not be serving meals on June 16th or July 4th due to Holidays.

She was honored with the Utah School Counseling Association 2023-24 School Counseling Program of the year which speaks to all of the amazing things she has done in our schools, district, and state.

She will be honored at a luncheon on May 15, And for anyone that would like to wish her well on her new adventure You can find her

On May 15 from 5:30 to 7:00 at Fountain Green Elementary’s May Day performance.

What is a Teen Center?

A Teen Center is more than just a room. It is a supportive space within our high school which offers vital resources which help students overcome challenges outside the classroom, by providing the stability they need to focus on their education. By meeting basic needs such as food, hygiene (including laundry & shower facilities), and personal guidance, Teen Centers empower students to stay engaged in school and succeed in every area of their lives.

Open to all students enrolled at North Sanpete High School, the Teen Center provides a welcoming environment where everyone is valued and supported. The center serves as a safe haven for students seeking assistance, regardless of their living situation or financial circumstances.

The Teen Center promotes school connection by providing an engaging place for students to be after school, while waiting to participate in the many extracurricular activities available at the High School.

Located next to the Aux Gym in the high school, the Teen Center is open to all students after school on regular school days, from 2:30-5:30 (closed during school activities). Services and resources are available to students and their families by appointment only during the school day. To schedule an appointment to access these services, please contact Cindy Lund at clund@nsanpete.org .

Dear Families and Students,

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security has issued new guidance stating that federal immigration officers may enforce immigration laws in and near sensitive areas, including schools. We understand that this may raise concerns for many in our community, and we want to assure you that we are fully aware of this policy change.

Here are some important reminders for all our families:

1. Every Child is Welcome and Safe Every child, regardless of immigration status – is welcome and safe in our schools. Undocumented children and young adults have the same right to attend public primary and secondary schools as U.S. citizens and permanent residents.

2. No Collection of Immigration Status Our schools and the school district do NOT and CANNOT collect information related to any student or family member’s immigration status. Since we do not gather this information, it is not something we can provide to any law enforcement agency.

3. No Engagement with Federal Immigration Authorities North Sanpete School District schools will not initiate engagement with federal immigration authorities for the purpose of sharing student information.

4. Support is Available We have counselors and support staff at each of our schools who are available to talk with students experiencing anxiety, stress, or fear for any reason.

In North Sanpete School District, we are committed to creating a supportive learning environment that meets the needs of every student. We care deeply about our community and all of our students. Please remember, school is a safe place. We will always communicate openly with parents and guardians and remain dedicated to acting in the best interest of our families at all times. Please keep your contact information up to date and make sure you have at least two emergency contacts designated by parents/guardians who can be trusted adults so that we can always communicate clearly about any student needs and school information. Thank you for trusting us with your child’s education and well-being.

HOPEWeek at NSMS launched on Dec. 16, bringing the school’s mission to reduce suicidal tendencies to the forefront. The week is focused on the goal of saving lives through the three-step Question, Persuade, and Refer (QPR) training.

To make sure students kick off their day on a positive note, Principal Ericksen will jingle silver bells from a fishing pole above students’ heads as they make their way through the morning rush every day this week.

Students that attend Moroni Elementary in grades 1-6 are automatically enrolled in Spanish Dual Immersion. Students spend half of their school day in the Spanish classroom and the other half of the day in English. The deadline to enter the program is January 15 of the second grade year.
