NSSD Foundation

Dear Parents/Guardians:

I am so happy to have everyone back at school!  I hope that your Thanksgiving Break was enjoyable and safe.

As we enter the last month of 2020, it will be most important for our parents to keep with the safety routine.  Please keep your student home if they are sick for any reason and reach out to your school if you need any assistance.  Principals and teachers will be doing their part with a plan to make the next three weeks productive learning time.

Our elementary age students will be participating in our mid-year assessment.  This is a time for our teachers to gage how much students are growing, identify areas of strength, and provide interventions as needed.  Our grade level teams will also look at this data to consider best instructional practices and the specific tools we are using to support students. For your part, take a few minutes to talk with your child about approaching each day with a positive attitude, and facing challenges with confidence and determination to do their best.  December can be filled with an abundance of activities and excitement, so work to maintain good sleep and eating habits.  A healthy schedule plays out in the classroom.

I have attached the new State Public Health Order 2020-25 which deals mainly with our extracurricular activities at the secondary level.  Students involved in these activities will be participating in regular testing beginning November 30th. This protocol was added to increase safety for our students and staff.  In addition, we may be asked to limit spectators at our high school events for the time being.  This is a challenge, as so many of our community members enjoy attending these competitions.  Watch for more information from the high school in the upcoming weeks about how this works.  Regardless, I invite you to join me in support of these students by watching their events on Channel 10 when available.  Trust that any information I receive from our State officials and the health department will be added to our COVID resources including updated dashboard information.

Our NSSD School Board meeting will be held at an earlier time this month.  The meeting is scheduled for tomorrow, Tuesday, December 1st at 4:00 p.m. The community may attend remotely by registering for a Zoom invitation through the district website.

Thank you for your support and take care,

Nan
