NSSD Mission

NSSD Foundation

Dear Parents and Guardians,

May brings the end of the school year and it is also a time that we celebrate many of the individuals in our lives.  This is the month we recognize the talented and dedicated teachers and instructional coaches in our district.  It is also time we recognize the mothers that care for our children.  Not to mention the recognition we just offered last week to our school principals and bus drivers.  All of these special people are doing amazing and wonderful things within our district! There are so many to thank, so many that make it possible for our schools to operate, and care for all students.  This is a strong community and I am proud of the support you show one another.

With 20 days left in the school year, we need your help.  This time is essential for teachers to finish critical learning, conduct necessary assessments needed to evaluate our progress, complete credits, and to celebrate the school year.  Attendance each day and each class period for our secondary students is expected and needed.  Thank you for your help.

Congratulations to our Teachers-of-the-Year.  Each school selected a teacher to be honored at April’s Board meeting.  At this month’s board meeting, we will honor those individuals selected as this year’s classified employees- of-the-year.  The board meeting will be held May 18th at 7 p.m.  Check out the district website for a request to this meeting by Zoom and for other information that will be helpful for your family, such as the calendar for next year.  I would encourage you to follow our social media links so that you receive essential notifications. It is my goal to better improve my use of this useful tool so that you are involved in real time.  Your feedback is welcome.

The State of Utah has opened up the vaccination opportunity for those individuals 16 and older.  We held a clinic in coordination  with our local health department more than a week ago.  If you are still interested a vaccination for yourself or your child, you will find more information at https://centralutahpublichealth.org/coronavirus-information/

Until the health order and the law changes, we are still required to continue with our COVID safety protocols until June 15th.  There are still positive cases and quarantine situations in our community, so we will keep washing our hands, wearing masks, sanitizing and testing at the secondary levels.  If you visit the school for any reason, please help us finish strong by wearing your mask.

Kindergarten registration for the upcoming school year is scheduled for the last week of school (see below).  It is important that we obtain an accurate list of all qualifying children.  If you have a child turning five years of age on or before September 1, 2021, he or she qualifies for next year’s kindergarten program.  If your child qualifies, please contact your local elementary school to make sure they are on the enrollment list.

We are fortunate to have a committed student support team in our district that provides you continual information regarding the mental health of children.  My thanks to each of these team members for their work.  I recently received this link from a fellow superintendent and thought you might want to check it out.  https://parentguidance.org/.  You can also look forward to an upcoming parent night on May 19th with Dr. Christy Kane.  Dr. Kane’s presentation focuses on electronics and the developing brain.  More information about the presentation will be posted to our website and social media accounts.

Take care and enjoy your week!
