Dear Parents,

Most mornings I follow a school bus to work.  Watching those students of all ages, step onto our bright yellow buses is a hopeful and enjoyable experience.  It reminds me of why we are all working to take care of this precious cargo.  I hope you feel the same.  As we settle into the routine of school, it is a good reminder for all of us to slow down in school zones and to watch for our students that are walking to school along our streets or waiting for a bus.  Please stop when you see those flashing bus lights.  Let’s make sure everyone arrives safely.

You have been flooded with texts and emails as we begin our work with students.  Thank you for staying engaged and watching for those instructions that help you assist your student in their academics. This includes the digital learning programs that our schools are using as well as Canvas.  You should have received instructions on how you can set up your parent account so that you have access to your student’s work.  Let us know if you run into trouble so that we can make sure you are ready to go.

I will be updating our COVID dashboard each weekend so you can see the current positive cases in our schools.  I work directly with our local health department as well as Central Utah Public Health Department on a daily basis.  Current information and announcements regarding COVID are placed on our website.  I am watching closely and working with principals to continue to do our best to keep students safe.  I need your help as well. If your child is sick, please keep them home. If someone in your household is sick and/or waiting for a COVID test result, please consider keeping your student home or consider having them wear a mask until you know the results.  As we roll into colder weather, we will see the transmission of other illnesses, so this practice of keeping student home when they don’t feel well helps us all.  Schools will continue to send students home if they don’t feel well.  Masks are still encouraged and welcome.  If you are interested in a vaccination, Central Utah Public Health has shared a COVID-19 Vaccination Clinic Schedule.  Please check the schedule for details on times and locations.

If your student needs COVID testing, our school nurses will be testing every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday afternoon from 2:30 pm to 3:30 pm at NSHS Learning Center by appointment only. Directions to schedule an appointment are as follows:

  • Click on this link for the calendar schedule.
  • Find the date you want to schedule the test by using the arrows on the top left of calendar.
  • Click on one of the gray boxes that say Covid.
  • IMPORTANT – Fill in the following information (instructions under ‘Description’)
    • Change ‘What’ to your STUDENT’S NAME.
    • Cell phone, email, school, and position must be filled in - please put parent contact information for cell phone and email. Include your student’s school and indicate student for the position.
    • Print and sign the waiver and consent form to take to the appointment.

Each year our literacy team and instructional review the data from the previous school year and set new goals for the current school year.  You can review this year’s goals on our website.  This document is our working blueprint for the year. As an administrative team, we meet bi-monthly to coordinate our efforts and monitor our growth.  I appreciate the efforts of all our strong teachers, paraprofessionals and administrators that focus on what matters…. your children.

I hope the week is positive and productive.

Be safe,
Nan
