Asbestos Hazard Emergency Response Act (AHERA)
Asbestos Hazard Emergency Response Act (AHERA)
November 6, 2025
On December 14, 1987, the Asbestos Hazard Emergency Response Act (AHERA) became effective, requiring the school
district to inspect all buildings for friable and non-friable asbestos containing materials and develop management plans
which outline actions to be taken to control the release of asbestos fibers.
All schools in the North Sanpete School District have been inspected by accredited asbestos inspectors. As a result of this
inspection, we have compiled an asbestos management book on every school. The book identifies all asbestos-containing
material in the school buildings and our plans for dealing with it in the future.
A copy of the management plan for each school is available through the North Sanpete School District Administrative
Office, for a cost of $30.00 each, or the book and management plan is available for your viewing at each school.
Certified asbestos personnel complete a surveillance inspection of every school building each six months. A total school
inspection is completed by a certified inspector every three years. The most recent re-inspection process for the Sanpete
County School buildings was completed on November 9,2015. All conditions are monitored and action taken as need is
determined.
We will be scheduling asbestos removal projects in several buildings from time to time. These removal projects will
generally be carried out in the summer months. If you wish to know if your school has removal projects scheduled, refer
to the school's asbestos management plan located in each school office area.
We will notify the parents and teachers annually of the asbestos progress in schools. A copy of this notification will also
be sent to each school for posting.
Training and re-training programs are in place to ensure a good program and provide safe conditions for all school building
occupants.
Asbestos Management Plan As required by Federal and State regulation North Sanpete School District has an Asbestos
Management Plan on file and it is available for inspection by appointment. The school's designated Asbestos Management
Planner is Zac Dimmick. If you would like to see the management plan, please call Zac at (435)462-2485 Ext.1831.

POSTING: ASBESTOS INSPECTIONS
Results of school asbestos inspections by accredited inspectors are available for public viewing in each North Sanpete
school or at the North Sanpete School District Maintenance Department, 220 East 700 South, phone (435)462-2485
Ext.1831. Asbestos re-inspections are done, as required by law, every three years with surveillance at six-month intervals.
The location and quantity of all ACBM in any specific building is documented in a book called the AHERA Asbestos
Management Plan. It is located within the proximity of the main office of each school. If anyone is wondering if a building
material within his or her building is an ACBM they can refer to the book's tab labeled Management Plan. There you will
find a page behind the Executive Summary tab, listing all information for the material in question. The book also contains
tabs titled Floor Plan, and Photo Log. These two sections are very informative as they show a map of the building and
pictures of areas of the building that may or may not contain asbestos.
Three key words to look for in these materials are ACM (Asbestos Containing Material), non-ACM (non-Asbestos
Containing Material), and Assumed ACM (Assumed Asbestos Containing Material.
I hope I have given some insight and peace of mind concerning Asbestos.
If there is any doubt concerning suspected ACBM, please feel free to call me at (435)462-2485 Ext.1831.
